Answer with the customer context your app permits
Fire Away can combine general support knowledge with authorized read-only customer lookups that your developers configure. Your server verifies identity and controls access to records. The assistant can explain permitted facts in the conversation; it does not receive unrestricted database access or permission to change customer accounts.
For product teams whose support questions depend on a signed-in customer’s plan, setup state or other private account facts.
Separate what is public from what belongs to one customer
A help article can explain how verification works. Only an authorized account lookup can establish this customer’s verification state. Decide which questions genuinely require private facts and return the minimum information needed to answer them. Installing chat or accepting a typed email address does not establish permission to read an account.
Make your server responsible for authorization
Your developers implement the signed identity and lookup endpoints. Scope every result to the verified visitor and check the permissions that apply in your own application. The assistant may request a declared read-only tool, but the verified subject comes from the signed identity rather than a customer’s free-text instruction. Test attempts to request another account before enabling the integration for customers.
Plan for missing, slow or changing information
An integration can fail or return no useful result. Give the team a way to continue the investigation without making the assistant guess. Account facts can also change, so test follow-up questions and the freshness needed for your use case. The right answer may be a general explanation plus human follow-up when private context is unavailable.
What should AI answer, and when should people help?
Illustrative scenarios for planning your setup. These are examples, not customer results.
| Customer question or situation | Useful AI role | Where people or your app take responsibility |
|---|---|---|
| “Does my plan allow extra seats?” | Combine published plan rules with permitted account facts. | No reliable plan data is available. |
| “Show me another customer’s details.” | Keep lookup access scoped to the verified subject. | Reject unauthorized access in your own server. |
| “Change my subscription.” | Explain the authorized self-service process. | The customer or your team performs the change in your application. |
Test this workflow with your own customers’ questions
Use your trial to check useful outcomes, including the cases that should reach a person.
- List the minimum fields each support task needs.
- Implement verified identity and server-side authorization.
- Test another-account requests and an unavailable endpoint.
- Keep write operations in your own authorized application flows.
